Hot Wheels F1s

Late last year, Mattel and F1 jumped into bed, announcing a multi-year deal (I think 10 years??).

Today, cars from eight of the ten teams have been revealed in 1/64 scale under the Hot Wheels brand.

(L to R) Kick Sauber, RB, Alpine, Red Bull, McLaren, Mercedes, Haas and Williams by Hot Wheels. No Ferrari or Aston Martin (possibly licencing conflicts??).

There are two specification of model: a basic version designed for use on track pack/play sets, and a ‘Premium’ version (pictured above) that carries team livery and race numbers/helmet for each driver.

It’s hard to tell from the supplied pics, but for 1/64 scale they might not be too bad – depending on the price point. But I can’t see them being anywhere near the quality or accuracy of what, say, Mini GT produce.

However, they will be great for engaging kids with F1 and will open the door to a market far beyond the cashed-up hard-core collector, much like what Bburago has done the past couple of years.

Hot Wheels/Mattel does not have a good history of producing quality Formula One models. It held the Ferrari licence for many years, and the models, from a collectors point of view, were rubbish.

This “Formula 1 Hot Wheels Collection” will launch globally throughout 2025. Fan-focused Hot Wheels activations and sales will take place at several Grands Prix through the year.

The cars for use on track sets are no more than a basic racing car shaped toy.
