As a kid, I recall Mattel’s Hot Wheels were always more colourful and fancier than Matchbox or Corgi when it came to small scale diecast toy cars.
Bruce Pascal is a hardcore Hot Wheels enthusiast with a collection he values at $2-million. The 13,000 pieces collection (over 10,000 cars and 3,000 pieces of memorabilia) was recently moved into a dedicated museum.
Amazingly, it’s far from the largest Hot Wheels collection in the world. Guinness World Record has been 30,000 pieces, however there’s supposed to be a collector in Texas putting together a 100,000 piece collection!
Of course, Mattel has been milking this “investor” adult hobbyist segment for some time now, with endless special editions and limited runs. But if people keep paying the prices…
