I have an interest in “old” NASCAR stock cars and Salvinos JR Models currently have a range of 1970s and 80s Grand National/Winston Cup machines.
My first Salvinos is this Oldsmobile 442, the 1979 Daytona 500 winning STP-backed Richard Petty machine, kit number RPO1979D. The video below shows what you get in one of these kits, which includes a lot of parts (117 unpainted + 17 chrome – though not all parts get used), rubber tyres, decals, engine and interior detail.
Strangley, the Salvinos range is a mix of 1:24 and 1:25 scale. I read somewhere the 1:24s are made from the ex-Monogram moulds Salvinos purchased, whereas the 1:25 scale models are Salvinos’ own newly developed kits – which makes no sense to me; why would you build brand new models in a different scale to the rest of your range? I mean, it’s not as if 1:24 isn’t a hugely popular scale on the word scene…
