No Formula One race cars this week, but there is an interesting old Hispano- Suiza from 1911 and the “rollout” version of the famous Porsche 956 racer that was sold to many customer racers in the early/mid 1980s (not sure why the Porsche is in this newsletter as it was already included in the Week 20 edition…).

| Description |
In 1904 the Fabricia la Hispano- Suiza de Automobiles was established.
It is a Spanish and Swiss company, a collaboration in automobile and aviation industries. Through this cooperation of nationalities the name of the company was born. Proudly portrayed in the Hispano-Suiza logo is both the Spanish and the Swiss flags.
In 1910 the Alfonso XIII, geared with a four-cylinder engine, was introduced to the market. This sports car, dedicated to the king, with its 3.6 liters engine displacement and 44kW achieved a maximum speed of more than 100km/h, an achievement rare for its time. The series type was named HISPANO SUIZA 15T Alfonso XIII and 500 units were manufactured from 1910 until 1916. The maximum speed was 130km/h. In 1911 the daily traffic incorporated more and more vehicles carrying the Hispano-Suiza emblem, so in response the mayoral office enforced the first guidelines regarding the automobile keeping. The drivers had to be between the ages of 18 and 67.
The maximum allowed speed in the cities was reduced to 15km/h and controlled by traffic signs. |
